2006 Letter from the ‘Campaign for an Independent Left (CIL)’ October 27, 2015


A 2006 letter from the Cllr Joan Collins of the ‘Campaign for an Independent Left’. The ‘Campaign for an Independent Left’ consisted at the time of Joan Collins and the group of activists around her, The Irish Socialist Network, some other Dublin and Kildare based activists as well as WUAG being affiliated. Various parties left until the group in Dublin South Central and Dublin Central joined The People Before Profit Alliance.
Should anyone have a copy of the “Independent Left” Newsletter I’d love a copy.

From the 2011 General Election an ad for Workers and Unemployed Movement (United Left Alliance) candidate Seamus Healy running in Tipperary South. Healy, who lost his seat in the 2007 election, is seen as having a great chance of regaining it this time around.

A leaflet for the forthcoming General election from Seamus Healy of The Workers and Unemployed Action Group (WUAG).
The Clonmel based WUAG was founded in 1985 and Healy has been a Councillor for the majority of the time since. It currently has five councillors Seamus Healy, Billy Shoer ,Pat English, Brian O’Donnell and Teresa Ryan on Clonmel UDC. Martin Henzey was elected to Carrick on Suir Town Council in 2009. It also has two county Councillors.
It is contesting the forthcoming General Election as part of the United Left Alliance. It has been to the forefront of the campaign to Save Clonmel Hospital.

From the 2009 Local elections Posters for The Workers and Unemployed Group candidates Pat English, Seamus Healy, Brian O’Donnell, Teresa Ryan and Billy Shoer running in Clonmel.
All were elected to Clonmel UDC, with English and Healy elected to the County Council.
WUAG is contesting the forthcoming General Election as part of the United Left Alliance.

Paddy Healy -Independent -Seanad 2007 April 13, 2010


From the 2007 Seanad Elections, Former head of the TUI Paddy Healy who is currently chair of the National Public Services Alliance.
He has a long history of involvement with the Left and was a founding member of the League for a Workers’ Republic. He stood a number of Times for the Dail in Dublin North East, in 1981 he ran on a H Block ticket but was never elected to the Dail.
His Brother, Seamus Healy of the Clonmel based Workers and Unemployed Group (WUAG) spent between 2000 and 2007 in the Dail and is tipped by many for a return at the next election.
