2014 isn’t just the year for the Local and European Elections, it also marks the millennium of the Battle of Clontarf in 1014.  This lovely Happy New Years card from Labour Councillor Jane Horgan Jones has amongst other things, details of various events related to the Millennium of the battle.

Leaflet about pollution on Bull Island- Stephen Egan -Fianna Fail -1999 Local Elections Clontarf October 30, 2010

From the 1999 Local Elections a leaflet from Fianna Fail candidate Stephen Egan running in Clontarf. The leaflet focused on pollution at Bull Island.
Egan polled 368 votes and failed to get in. Ivor Callely topped the poll with 30% of the vote!

Gerry Breen, Tom Halligan -Fine Gael -1999 Local Elections -Clontarf August 20, 2010

From the 1999 Local Elections a leaflet for Fine Gael candidates Gerry Breen and Tom Halligan running in Clontarf. Gerry Breen was elected.

The Fine Gael slogan of ‘a new patriotism’ wasn’t exactly brilliant.



Peter Lawlor -Sinn Fein -2004 LE Clontarf June 12, 2010

From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet for Sinn Fein candidate Peter Lawlor running in the five seat Clontarf ward. Lawlor polled 1,478 votes and was in fifth position after the first count. He failed to hold on to his position and lost out.
He also stood in the 2007 General Election in Dublin North Central, but again failed to win a seat.

A traffic themed leaflet from Fine Gael candidate Naoise Ó Muirí running in the 2004 Local Elections in the Clontarf ward. Ó Muirí was elected and returned again in the 2009 Local Elections.



Pádraig de Burca ,Derek Mc Dowell -Labour Party -Clontarf 1999 Local Elections April 21, 2010

From the 1999 Local Elections in The Clontarf ward, Labour Party candidates Pádraig de Burca and Derek Mc Dowell.
Pádraig de Burca polled 451 votes and wasn’t elected. Former TD and Junior Minister Derek McDowell polled 1205 votes and was elected.

Issues mentioned here included Public Transport, Political Standards and Housing.
In the Housing part, Labour advocated the following….
-More Serviced land at a fair price.
-A massive increase in house building.
-To bring back certificates of reasonable value to end excessive profiteering.



Ronan Garvey -PD -Clontarf 1999 LE January 6, 2010

A trodden Ronan Garvey (sadly I pick these things up when I see them on the ground) from the 1999 local Elections in Clontarf where he failed to be elected. The leaflet has details of the PDs proposed Transport policy for the Dublin area. Much of which has come to fruition since.
