From the 2009 Local Elections a leaflet from Independent Councillor John Carroll who was running for a seat on Birr Town Council and Offaly County Council. He had previously stood a number of times for Sinn Fein including the 1984 European Elections and the 1987 and 1992 General Elections. (His record at electionsireland.org)
He is currently in the news as his son Donncha O’Cearbhail was recently arrested in connection with hacker group LulzSec.

In the 2011 General Election he polled a respectable 2554 votes. He had been voting with Fianna Fail on the council prior to joining them.

Tom Cribbin – ‘Independant’ -Edenderry -2009 LE November 4, 2010
I love this 2009 leaflet from ‘Independant’ Tom Cribbin running for Edenderry Town Council and Offaly County Council. I’m puzzled if the spelling mistake is deliberate or not.
Cribbin, a long standing Councillor resigned from Fianna Fail in protest at the party’s selection procedure for local election candidates prior to the 2009 Local Elections. He ran as an Independent.
He failed to win a seat on Offaly County Council and I’m unsure if he won a seat or not on Edenderry Town Council.

From the 1999 Local Elections for Offaly County Council. A Leaflet for the Fianna Fail candidates Una Collison, Joe Dooley, Jim McNamara and Pat Moylan running in Birr LEA.

Pat Moylan has also served in the Seanad and has held the position of Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann.
From the 2009 Local Elections for Offaly County Council, Independent Fine Gael candidate Michael Fox running in the Edenderry LEA. Despite polling well he failed to get in.
Fox, previously elected for Fine Gael in Tullamore switched to Edenderry after boundary changes. He had failed to get a nomination by Fine Gael, so ran as an Independent. The long serving councillor had twice (Nov 1982 and 1987) been on the Fine Gael General Election ticket in Laois-Offaly.
Pat Gallagher, Sean O’Brien,Lar Byrne, Joe Feery, Ann Starling -Labour Party -1999 LE, Offaly CC, Tullamore UDC March 4, 2010
From the 1999 local elections a flyer for Labour candidates Senator Pat Gallagher and Cllr Sean O’Brien running for Offaly County Council. On the reverse the Labour Candidates for Tullamore UDC, Pat Gallagher, Sean O’Brien,Lar Byrne, Joe Feery and Ann Starling are all shown.
Pat Gallagher resigned from politics around 2000 to take up the position of Director of Community and Enterprise with Westmeath County Council. He is now the County Manager of Offaly County Council, having previously held a similar post with Galway County Council. He had been elected to the Dail in 1992 and lost his seat in 1997. He was elected to the Senate in 1997. (His record at electionsireland.org)
The Labour result in Tullamore UDC was a massive victory for them as Labour won four of the nine seats (result at electionsireland.org). Pat Gallagher, Sean O’Brien,Lar Byrne and Joe Feery were elected with Ann Starling missing out.
Incidentally a ‘Miriam O’Callaghan’ was elected for Fianna Fail there too (although I gather no relation).
Theres nothing on the flyer indicating policy, its just photos of the candidates.
Tom Parlon- Progressive Democrats -2007 GE Laois-Offaly January 17, 2010
From the 2007 General Election, former IFA president Tom Parlon. Parlon then a junior Minister was big on decentralisation.
Having won a seat in 2002, he lost it in this 2007 election. (Parlon on ElectionsIreland.org) . He then became DG of the Connstruction Industry Federation.
Peter Ormond -1999 LE -Birr January 7, 2010
The then Independent Peter Ormond from the 1999 local elections in Birr where he was elected.
He duly switched to Fianna Fail and was elected in 2004 and 2009 on the Fianna Fail ticket.
Peter Ormond illustrates here many of the issues that went ignored since 1999. Roads being flooded, planning issues and so on.
