“Save Ulster with the Ulster Democratic Unionist Association” Leaflet ..from the early 80s? November 30, 2011

Got this recently , a leaflet from the ‘Ulster Democratic Unionist Association Co. Londonderry’, outlining their aims and objectives. I think its from the early 80s but can’t be sure. I can’t find anything online about them. I presume that they were linked to the Democratic Unionist Party.
If anyone has any details of the group I’d love to know.

This is quite interesting, its from early 2006 and the PD’s propose moving Dublin Port to Drogheda using a comparison with Helsinki. The move was to happen over a 20 year period with a ‘New Quarter’ proposed where Dublin Port was.
This ‘New Quarter’ was to be filled with high rise buildings, a port for cruise liners and much more.
As the last days of the Celtic Tiger were still in full swing the image of what Dublin may have looked like had the madness gone on.

“By working together, socialist and christian activists can radically change the nature of politics in Ireland” -Emmet Stagg Leaflet late 80′s November 26, 2011

With a striking image and the famous quote “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why are they poor, they call me a Communist.” from Archbishop Camara, this leaflet from Emmet Stagg asks “By working together, socialist and christian activists can radically change the nature of politics in Ireland”.
I don’t know if anything came from this Christian Socialist message which I think was from the 1989 General Election campaign.

Flyer from Shane Ross about the proposed closure of the Motor Tax Office in Nutgrove Shopping Centre November 25, 2011

Picked this leaflet from Shane Ross up today outside the Motor Taxation Office in Nutgrove Shopping Centre. From talking to the gents manning the table with the petition its due to close by the end of December. Given the Shopping Centre is under enough pressure from having Dundrum in its vicinity, the closure can only put more pressure on the various outlets in the centre.
I was informed too that Ross is the only local TD taking an interest in the issue. He is the only opposition TD in Dublin South!

“Say NO while you still have a chance” -Fine Gael -1968 Change in Voting system Referendum November 22, 2011

From the 1968 Referendum on the system of voting , Fine Gael urge voters to “Say NO while you still have a chance” .
There were two Referendums on that day both defeated.
The change in voting one was

To substitute for the present system of voting at Dáil elections the “straight vote” system in single-member constituencies;
To establish a Commission to determine constituencies, subject to the right of the Dáil to amend the constituencies as so determined; and
To provide that whenever the Dáil is dissolved the outgoing Ceann Comhairle may be returned, without a contest, as a second deputy for a constituency chosen by him which consists of, or includes a part of, the constituency he represented before the dissolution.

Whilst the Formation of Dail Constituencies Referendum….

The Third Amendment of the Constitution Bill, 1968, proposes that in forming Dáil constituencies, the population per deputy in any case may not be greater or less than the national average by more than one-sixth and that regard must be had to the extent and accessibility of constituencies, the need for having convenient areas of representation and the desirability of avoiding the over-lapping of county boundaries.

Both were rejected.
