From 2002 a leaflet picked up in Wexford with the catchy heading ‘We’ve made a difference.. You can too..’
How?
‘Join Fianna Fail’
The Leaflet paints a wonderful picture of the time, pointing at employment growth, Peace and other items.

‘Join Fianna Fail’
The Leaflet paints a wonderful picture of the time, pointing at employment growth, Peace and other items.
From the 1991 Local Elections, Green Party candidates in the Ballybrack Ward, Maggie Blake and Vincent Treanor. Despite polling well neither were elected. It was the only time either stood for election for the Greens.
From the 2002 General Election a flyer for the Late Seamus Brennan running for Fianna Fail in Dublin South. Seamus Brennan topped the poll and was elected on the first count.
On the reverse of the leaflet are the achievements of the 1997 to 2002 Government. Amongst them ‘Ended Emigration‘ which was at the time seen as a huge achievement. Alas it appears to be back again.
A flyer for a 2004 meeting of the Rialto Anti War Group, part of the Irish Anti War Movement, to be addressed by Sinéad Ní Bhroin and Raymond Deane.
From the 1998 Good Friday Agreement Referendum campaign, a leaflet from the SDLP asking for a Yes vote.
A happy looking family on a merry go round (was there some significance in the choice of a merry go round?) with a message from John Hume and other key points.
From the 2004 local Elections in the Terenure Rathfarnham Locale election Area a Leaflet for Fine Gael candidates Stanley Laing, Michael McLoughlin and Brian Tector.
Despite all three polling well, it was only the long serving Stanley Laing that was elected.
A Sinn Fein Flyer from the 1998 Assembly Elections in West Belfast.
The Sinn Fein candidate are Gerry Adams ,Bairbre de Brún , Alec Maskey, Sue Ramsey and Michael Ferguson

Quite a detailed newsletter issued by Fine Gael in June 1985 around the time of the Local Elections.
Informs us about Local Government Reforms. Legislation that has been passed such as The Family Planning Act and proposed Legislation are mentioned. Amongst other items mentioned are Farm Tax, Education and the Fine Gael London Support group.

From the 2007 General election, a leaflet from Fine Gael candidate in Dublin Central Paschal Donohoe. Donohoe originally elected as a councillor for Cabra-Glasnevin in 2004, lost out on the final count in 2007 and was subsequently elected to the Seanad.
In the 2009 Dublin Central By-Election Donohue polled 22.7% of the vote and lost out in the final count to Maureen O’Sullivan. He is tipped to win a Dail seat at the next General Election.
From the 2009 Local Elections a leaflet for Fine Gael candidate Alan Farrell running in the Howth-Malahide ward. Initially elected in 2004 , Alan Farrell comfortably held onto his seat on Fingal County Council in 2009.
Regarding the wonderful picture on the Leaflet the sender notes that ‘the leaflet was produced with permission of the artist, I would ask that you highlight that it is copyright.’
Many thanks to the sender.

From the 2004 Local Elections for Dublin City Council, a newsletter from Green Party candidate Patricia Gardiner running in the South West Inner City Ward.
Patricia Gardiner polled 952 votes and missed out on the final count. She since sought the Green Party nomination in 2007 for Sligo-North Leitrim but was not selected.
From the 2009 Local Elections for Offaly County Council, Independent Fine Gael candidate Michael Fox running in the Edenderry LEA. Despite polling well he failed to get in.
Fox, previously elected for Fine Gael in Tullamore switched to Edenderry after boundary changes. He had failed to get a nomination by Fine Gael, so ran as an Independent. The long serving councillor had twice (Nov 1982 and 1987) been on the Fine Gael General Election ticket in Laois-Offaly.
Unusual to have an Independent Fine Gael candidate as we are more used to Independent Fianna Fail ones.

From the 1994 European Elections a canvass card for Democratic Left candidate Pat Rabbitte running in Dublin.
Rabbitte was canvassing outside a Shamrock Rovers game in the RDS when I picked this up. As far as I know, He is a Rovers fan.
Pat Rabbitte failed to win a seat.
From the 1992 General Election a letter from Progressive Democrat candidate Helen Keogh ‘To All UK Nationals Eligible to Vote in Dun Laoghaire’.
It points out that they were entitled to vote in the General Election but not in the three Abortion related Referenda held on the same day.
Although not written, the reader cant help but get the impression that the PDs were advertising themselves as the party most sympathetic to British policy and Britain.
Helen Keogh was elected . She stood in the 2002 General Election for Fine Gael.
A flyer for Green Party NUI seanad candidate Martin Hogan. Despite having Green Party logos on his literature Hogan was officially an Independent. He polled 683 votes and was well down the field.
He was appointed to the board of FAS in 2010.
